Setting the Blue Pot.

 

Fully Charged Battery:

1.)    Have the sun shining on the solar panel.

2.)    Have a fully charged battery.

3.)    Have an ammeter in series with the battery. This will measure battery current.

4.)    Set the Blue Pot for just charging the battery.

 

Not Fully Charged Battery with Min/Max meter:

If the battery is not fully charged, it is more difficult to set the blue pot.

If you have a meter that reads max and min, and you know how to use it, use that meter.

1.)    Have a strong sun shining on the solar panel.

2.)    Disconnect the battery. Run the optimizer no load.

3.)    Read the min and max on the meter. Make sure that the readings are not changing.

         The readings should be "like a rock". Note the max reading.

4.)    Set the blue pot for the voltage that you want.  For lead acid, at room temperature,

         this Max voltage is 4*14.4=57.6V. I usually set it for a little less than this.

 

Not Fully Charged Battery and NO Min/Max meter:

If the battery is not fully charged, it is more difficult to set the blue pot.

1.)    Have a strong sun shining on the solar panel.

2.)    Disconnect the battery.

3.)    Put a load on the optimizer instead of the battery. We used a 40 watt light bulb for the

        48v version. the light bulb dissipates 11 watts at 50v. Picking the right load is not easy.

        We tried several. If the solar panel is putting out less power than the load is dissipating,

        the load won't work. If the load is too small in power, eventually the optimizer won't work.

4.)    Have a voltmeter across the output. The voltage with the blue pot fully counterclockwise

         is about 49V. The voltage with the blue pot fully clockwise is about 59V.

5.)    Set the blue pot for the desired voltage. For lead acid, at room temperature,

         this voltage is 4*14.4=57.6V. I usually set it for a little less than this.
