9 to 36V DC (IN), +5V,+12V (OUT) UPS Power Supply

March 9, 2003

The DCDC/22/12/5/100 is a power supply with a 9 to 36 volt, DC, input , a 12 volt, 3.5 amp output, a 5 volt 10 amp output, and an auxiliary 12 volt, DC, Battery input for standby, in case the 9 to 36 volt input is removed. The unit is not isolated. It can be powered from a 12 or 24 volt Battery.

If the 9 to 36 volt input falls below 9 volts, the 12 volt standby input will automatically take over supplying the power. If the 9 to 36 volt input is under 9 volts but above 2 volts, the unit will take up to 10 amps from the 9 to 36 volt input, and the rest from the battery. So, when the input is low, there is sharing of source power.

The 9 to 36 volt input is internally limited to 10 amps. The input from the battery is indirectly current limited by the 12 and 5 volt regulators.

The 12 volt output is current limited to 3.5 amps. The 5 volt output is current limited to 10 amps.

The battery is charged automatically at a .100 amp rate, until the voltage reaches 13.70 volts. The current abruptly goes to zero at voltages higher than this. This input can be shorted to common.

The 9 to 36 volt input, and the 12 volt standby input are fused with a 15 amp fuse.
The 9 to 36 volt input is feeding a 28 UHY inductor, where the current ripple is very small. This input is also protected with a capacitor and a 51 volt TVS.

When the 12volt standby input powers the unit, the 12 volt output is only a diode drop lower, and will follow the battery voltage.

There is a fault output that is the collector of a transistor pulled up to the 5 volts. This transistor turns off when the 9 to 36 volt input is less than 9 volts.

The Power Supply is 8.15” X 4.20” with 7.75” X 3.80” mounting holes.
